Putting First Things First...

It's been a while since I've blogged on here. Apparently I've been spending my time living instead of writing about it. :)

We've had a lot going on and some things have taken precedence over blogging. Life is like that. Different chapters and seasons bring unique challenges and growth. Time and experience have a way of helping us grow and progress --- even if we don't want to. :)

Blogging has been enjoyable and has met some of my needs of self-expression. It's even been therapeutic at times.

One of the quests of life is to put 'first things first'. I believe that the Spirit guides us in doing that. He knows much better than we do our gifts and talents, challenges and limitations. Those who feel to 'press forward' just for the name of it may be missing other items of more importance at the time.

My belief is that as we follow our guide/conscience/gut etc. we'll be led to do the things that matter most 'first'.

How timely. I have been contemplating similar thoughts and feelings about my priorities. I decided to discontinue my political blog for a couple of reasons, partly because of time priority. I am carrying 20 credit hours of classes right now in my final year of law school, a rediculous load, and I can't worry about keeping current with my political rantings. Also, I find that the energy I spend on finding fault with liberals could be spent in more productive ways. I will never 'convert' a liberal by criticizing them, so there is nothing positive to be gained. For this reason I have also found it to be only gratifying, not uplifting. I need to channel that same energy toward uplifting others and toward positive influences. I have begun writing inspirational columns for a local church newsletter used to reach out to less-active members. It may not be as 'fun' as writing something scathing about liberalism, but I definitely feel like I am using my literary gifts in a way that pleases the Lord. And that makes it all worth it.
Great post Heidi, you're on it!
Good to see you back!

Well said! I loved how you said you're living your life instead of writing about it, haha. Blogging can be so consuming I've realized. I found myself obsessing over it, and made some changes since then. Set time limits for the computer, and try to only blog 2-3 times a week.
I'm following you now, just love your blog. So inspirational!
